Students who have successfully completed secondary education and passed the national general examinations are admitted to the University.The duration of undergraduate studies is four years of full time studies. The undergraduate studies are comprised of not less 130 credits. School of Law study duration is 5 yearsand requires not less 150 credits to graduate.
Free choice
The NUM offer free elective courses for students based on their own interests and wishes. These courses can be chosen within their majors, minors and double major courses and even in their interested schools or faculties at the NUM.
Minors
In order to improve competiveness of its students at the labor market and increase prestige of their education, the NUM offer student to specialize minors besides their majors which are comprised of not less than 30 credits.
Double majors
The NUM enables its students to specialize double majors during their studies at the University. Besides improving their competitiveness at the labor market, the NUM motivates its students to sharpen their academic skills and competency and work hard towards successful studies at the University. The students who have attended all the foundation courses and obtained 1/3 credits of major courses with a GPA of 3.2 or above will be permitted to specialize double majors.
The NUM offers 93 master degree programs approved by the Ministry of Education and Science. A regular master program at the NUM is comprised of 32 credits. The duration of master programs is 1,5-2 years. Students who wish to pursue their master studies in a different field from their background will attend preparation courses before entering into master programs. These preparation courses at the NUM will last 2 semesters.
Research Master program: total course load is 30 credit hours including research thesis and additional research work of four credit hours.
Taught Master program: Total course load is 32 credit hours. The master’s degree by coursework does not require thesis work and credit hours are fulfilled via internship.
Pre-Master pathway: Applicants whose Bachelor degree obtained in different fields and eligible from the entrance examination are accepted conditionally and shall be enrolled to pre-master program and successfully complete the course in 2 semesters.
The NUM offers 44 PhD degree programs approved by the Ministry of Education and Science. A regular PhD program at the NUM is comprised of 30 credits for required courses and 30 credits for research (18 credits of research and 12 credits of dissertation). The duration of PhD programs is three to four years equal to six to eight semesters. Students who hold M.A / M.Sc degrees from recognized tertiary institutions are eligible to enroll in the PhD programs at the NUM.
The PhD degrees are awarded after successful completion of 60 credits and defense of research dissertation.
The Departmentof Mongolian language and culture provides a Mongolian language programfor exchange students who wish to improve their Mongolian language, explore Mongolian history and culture further. These courses cannot be counted toward an academic degree.
Intensive Mongolian language program for exchange studentshelps students achieve speaking, listening, reading and academic writing skills. The program is 6-10 months and intakes are in September and February. The courses are designed at six different levels:
Elementary /level 1/
Pre-intermediate /level 2/
Intermediate /level 3/
Upper-intermediate /level 4/
Advanced /level 5-6/
MLP also includes some extracurricular activities such as fieldtrips. Exchange students can experience a fun trip with other international NUM students and teachers to places of cultural and historic interest around Mongolia. Fieldworks, ranging from half-day to longer periods, will also be organized by the departments.
Suppose nominated students intend to take lectures and courses in an undergraduate program (please keep in mind that the majority of the lectures and courses are held in Mongolian). In that case, we recommend they have sufficient Mongolian language abilities to understand the lectures and courses. The Mongolian language program /Non-Degree Program/ does not require any language ability.
Summer School Program for Urban Resilience Adaptation and Sustainable Environment Management.
National University of Mongolia (NUM), a partner of the URGENT project and the coordinator of the ONE project, both funded by ERASMUS+ programme of the European Union, is delighted to announce the summer school program for urban resilience, adaptation and sustainable environmental management. A summer school is jointly organized by two projects, namely Urban resilience and adaptation for India and Mongolia - URGENT and European orientation for sustainable environmental management in Mongolia – ONE projects, in the Ulaanbaatar city, Mongolia between 15 and 28 July 2022.
Announcement and admission requirement:
The Summer school open-call announces through the project’s and the partners’ websites and social media of the projects’ partners in April 2022, and registration finished by June 2022 via online platform.
Under ONE project, 25 participants, both NUM students and professionals can enroll in the summer school.
Under URGENT project, both students and staffs of partner institutes can enroll in the summer school.
Also, the summer school is open for participants not belonging to one of the projects.
Participants should actively participate and be available for the whole duration of the summer school between 15 and 28 July 2022.

Fees:
No fee requires for Mongolian participants of the ONE project. All costs, including travel insurance, out-city transportation, food and accommodation during out-city activity will be supplied by the ONE project.
No fee requires for participants of the URGENT project. All costs, including insurance, transportation, food, daily allowance, accommodation will be covered by travel and stay cost of the project.
Participants not belonging to one of the projects, need to pay their own fee, which costs 1000 USD excluding international travel cost.
Travel accessories and personal supplies during the summer school will be borne by the participant.
